The film was generally praised by critics and the performance of the entire cast which included actors Kevin Bacon, Bill Paxton, Gary Sinise, Ed Harris, and Kathleen Quinlan. The film earned nine Academy Award nominations and won two. Later that year, Hanks starred in Disney/Pixar's computer-animated film Toy Story (1995), as the voice of Sheriff Woody. He made his directorial debut a year later with the film You Do! (1996) that chronicles the rise and fall of a 1960s-era pop group, also playing the role of a producer. The Time magazine's Richard Schickel called it "charming", while most people agree with Hanks' performance earned him a spot among the top romantic comedy actors of in his generation.
